April Is National Frog Month: Take Some Time Out for Fun Frog Activities
Spring is here, and the frogs are croaking their celebration of this season of growth and renewal. There are 4,700 frog species in the world. While none of them are native to Hawaii, there are six frog species and one toad species on our islands.
A Few Fun Frog Activities
These little creatures are fascinating. Who has not enjoyed hearing their croaks or spotting one hopping through the dirt? During the spring months, you are likely to hear them more than other times of the year. This is the season when males are doing their best to attract a female with their croaks. It is a great time to head to a pond in search of frogs!
Here are a few other fun family activities you can do this month to celebrate National Frog Month:
• Head out after dark and try to locate some frogs. You will hear a lot of them making noise after the sun goes down.
• Print frog coloring pages and spend an afternoon coloring.
• Play a game of hopscotch where everyone has to hop like a frog.
• Make frog-shaped cookies and decorate them with green sprinkles.
• Watch a frog documentary or visit the frog section in a zoo to learn more about them.
This month, take some time to appreciate these interesting amphibians. They are entertaining to watch and listen to, and they play an important role in ecosystems all over the world.
