July 30th is International Friend Day, and furry friends are among the best. There has never been a better time to celebrate the friendship and companionship that you and your pets share. Here are six ideas for how to make the holiday extra special for the animals in your life.

1. Take a Trip

Many pets, especially dogs, love to get out and explore new places. Do some research about options in your area and arrange to visit a park, lake, or beach you have never taken them to before to give your pet a chance to experience somewhere new. They will love the novelty and spending time with their favorite person: you!

2. Try Some Treats

The market has exploded with healthy and tasty options for pets of all kinds in the last few years. Let your four-legged friend try some new treats to show them how you appreciate their friendship. You can even look up recipes to whip up your own at home. Consult your veterinarian to see what options they recommend if you have questions. 

3. Get Them a Smart Gift

Pets love presents, and there are many smart tech options available to choose from. An automatic pet feeder will make sure your furry friend always gets the food they need. A two-way pet camera allows you to watch and interact with them while you are away. Automatic fetch machines let dogs enjoy one of their favorite pastimes without wearing out your arm. 

4. Let Them Join You

Often, pets just want more time with you. It can be difficult with work and other obligations taking up your days and energy to give them all the attention they crave. Try to include them where you can on this special day by letting them join you in areas or at times of day they might not usually be able to. Spend your lunchtime with them or take them in the car with you while you run errands. This extra special time with you will make their day.

One of the greatest gifts you can give your pet pal is to make sure they are up to date with their veterinarian care. Check with your vet to see if your pet is on schedule with vaccinations and check-ups and talk about any concerns you have about how best to care for your four-legged friend.
