Amazing Birth “Tails” on Puppy Day

You might not believe it, but sometimes puppies are born green! Scientists suspect it’s because a bit of green bile fluid leaked out of the placenta. The color fades after a few weeks.

Depending on the breed, not all puppies come out with their adult colors. The soft-coated Wheaten terrier, for example, is born with black fur that gradually fades into gold. You’ve probably heard that Dalmatian puppies don’t start getting their spots until a week or two after birth.

Most puppies are born in litters, but in 2016 a pair of puppies in South Africa were proven to be genetically identical twins! Meanwhile, in 2004, a dog in England set the world record by delivering 24 puppies in one litter.
 

Fun Games for Puppy Day

Find-the-treat games can be as simple as hiding treats under cups or as elaborate as placing a dozen treats in various puppy-safe locations while your pup isn’t watching. Puzzle toys that make your furball think are also an entertaining option.

Wand toys aren’t just for cats, and they’re a good way to start training your puppy to obey the “drop it” command. For indoor chase games on a rainy day, try bubbles made for dogs.

If your puppy is especially energetic (aren't they all!), you can use pillows, wrapping paper tubes, boxes, and other household items to create an obstacle course. If you have access to plenty of outdoor space, balls and frisbees are classics for a reason, and you can also play chase or hide-and-seek.
