Do you have a dog, cat or another beloved animal that is part of your household? If so, take time to celebrate your love for your furry, feathered or scaly friend during the upcoming National Pet Week. Taking place May 7-13, this is a full week of learning more about pets and how to care for them.
During National Pet Week, each day has a pet-related theme that teaches the public something about caring for pets. The daily themes include:
• Sunday: Choosing well and committing to your pet for life
• Monday: Socializing
• Tuesday: Nutrition and exercise
• Wednesday: Taking your pet to the vet
• Thursday: Traveling with care
• Friday: Preparing for emergencies
• Saturday: Planning pet care for a lifetime
With each day focusing on a different key aspect of pet care, you will be able to learn an extensive amount of pet-related information over the week.
While National Pet Week exists to help educate people on pet care, that does not mean you should limit what you learn to one week. Instead, make an effort to remember what you learn each day all year long. For example, make a habit of taking your pet to the vet at least semiannually to perform routine health exams. Always try to plan ahead for emergencies, and be mindful of dietary and exercise needs. By incorporating these pet care tips into your daily life, you can become the best pet parent possible.
Having a pet can be very rewarding, but it requires special care and attention. You can use the information you learn during National Pet Week to take steps to better care for the cat, dog or other pet in your life. How long has it been since your last vet visit?
